Tatsuo Shimabuku Performing Kata

Tatsuo Shimabuku performing Kusanku kata

There are four short sequences of video showing Tatsuo Shimabuku performing kata that are believed to be from a 1958 session at the Agena Dojo. It looks like they were filmed on hand-held 8mm film and the quality is extremely poor, plus they show only short sections of the kata represented.

However, unlike the 1966 commercial video made of O'Sensei doing kata, he is not simply walking through the moves. These show him performing the kata at full speed and power.

If you'd like to view them, click on the links below to download them. If you have video software installed on your machine (such as Windows Media Player or QuickTime), you'll be able to watch them. If you get a message that you don't have the proper codecs to play the file, try downloading them to your machine first by right-clicking on the link and choosing "Save Target As" (IE) or "Save Link As" (Firefox).

Note that Shimabuku ended up not adopting Kyan No Sai into Isshin-ryu.
