Sensei Dennis Sammartino

Sensei Sammartino opened the school in 1980 as part of the Jersey Judo Karate Kai, the association of his teacher, Shihan Dale Jenkins. In 1985, after the untimely passing of Shihan Jenkins, Sensei Sammartino founded the Boonton Karate-do Kai for the purpose of continuing his sensei's tradition of excellence, dedication, discipline and respect.

Sensei Sammartino is the author of the book, A Path to Someone New, as well as numerous articles on the martial arts and their relationship to physical and mental well-being. He has officiated at the Isshin-ryu World Championships and the Garden State Games and served on the rules committee of the latter.

In 2002 he was inducted into the World Alliance of Martial Arts Hall of Fame.

In November 2006, Sensei Sammartino was elevated to Hachi-dan, 8th degree black belt.
